Overview

Greenland Ice Sheet Tipping Points

GAMB2LE's Mobile Observatory

Field Deployments

Core Values

Core values

The GAMB2LE team are united by a set of core values that we believe are critical for sustainable, impactful, and high-quality polar research.

Open science and collaboration

We believe that by working to understand the physical processes controlling the future of the Greenland Ice Sheet that we can help to protect our planet and improve lives. Anyone who is working towards this goal is on our team. We pledge to keep our science and innovation open access where possible, and to welcome new collaborations and ideas. In doing so, we hope to maximise the impact of GAMB2LE.

Inclusive fieldwork

We are committed to improving inclusivity in polar fieldwork. This is written into the AURORA design specifications; that the physical dimensions of the system should be such that the installation is possible for people with a range of physical characteristics. As part of GAMB2LE we are developing a Code of Conduct for Inclusive Field work – watch this space.

Sustainability

Polar research, including polar fieldwork, is critical to understand the rapid changes that are taking place in polar regions and the impacts of these changes on the rest of the world. We believe that this does not give scientists a free pass to consume non-renewable resources or cause damage to the environments or societies we are trying to study. The long-term objective of GAMB2LE is to reduce the net impact of in-situ monitoring on the Greenland Ice Sheet by developing a robust, autonomous, renewably powered system that is as capable as existing resource intensive observatories. We understand that we will be consuming non-renewable resources to achieve this objective. We pledge to critically evaluate the resources we consume as part of GAMB2LE to minimise our carbon and environmental footprint where possible.

FAIR and CARE data principles

Our data is the primary output of GAMB2LE that we hope will help people to understand the ongoing changes on the Greenland Ice Sheet for years to come. To ensure this objective is realised we pledge to follow FAIR and CARE data principles. See our Data page for more information on how to access GAMB2LE data.

FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable

CARE: Collective benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics
